His motivational talk to the students on his personal and work experiences, who and what motivates him, and how he achieves goals and opens doorways was a refreshing and different approach that the students embraced.
Listen in, below, on their supervisor Angela Dickenson as she shares her thoughts on the talk.
Stevie also received the following feedback which displays the striking results of his motivational talk.
“Thank you for Friday. From the minute we arrived, I knew it was going to be the best. Your staff were friendly and welcoming and your regard for the students was evident. You made them feel important and worthy – sadly, they don’t always experience this in the wider world.
I was struck by how attentive the students were – in my experience it is rare that they are able to concentrate on listening for longer than a few minutes at a time. Moreover, your sensitivity towards their particular needs gave them the confidence to respond to your questions.
In chatting to the students on the way back to college, it was clear that you had made a tremendous impression on them – and I hope they gave you good feedback. One student said that you had ‘changed his life’ because he was able to relate to you having left school early and he said that he had felt his life was over when he left school – until Friday morning! Others said that you had given them a lot to think about and they felt they could do things if they believed they could.
All in all, you were inspiring and inspirational. Thank you.”
