Today the cupboard, tomorrow the world!
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week saw the young people (Activities Agreement) of the youth Academy develop a further understanding of the world of work, particularly the clause in contracts that states “any other duties”. Some of the group have been out with one of the drivers to develop a greater understanding of customer service, time management and planning and organising. More intense work has been done regarding the role of the beautician and the knowledge base is growing on what we will cover in the job role, courses are being booked for manicure and pedicure certificated training.
Planning and organising skills have been given a great push as we are decorating the training room and one of the young people has taken complete ownership of the task – from costing to delegation of duties! Huge change from a young person who struggled to be on time and sustaining a whole day in week one! Our young person interested in sports coaching is creating a portfolio of resources of activities and lesson plans that he has researched ready to put into action in his coaching sessions.
Friday saw the candidates make a bid for expansion! The youth academy candidates have made a takeover bid for an extra room and cleared out the stationary “room of doom” which was KDS version of the Bermuda triangle and which staff had been frightened to tackle! (and we did discover a good sized room and some long forgotten objects!) Job done the young people have shown they are leading the way in pro-activeness, confidence, motivation and rising to the challenge and are thinking about how WE could utilise the space better! (We have various ideas!!)
Today the cupboard, tomorrow the world! What will these young people achieve next? Keep reading!

This group are brilliant. Watching them learn and grow has been amazing. Massive credit to Kate for all the learnings installed in this group but each have made their own choices and they have changed in a positive way.

Kate, I have been training through in the capital for the last 20 days and on my return yesterday to head office i done the pick ups for the youth Academy so this gave me a chance to see how far these guys have come, very impressed on entering the bus i was
immediately given an introduction to who they are and a firm handshake from each of the team....Well done for coming such a long way in a short period of time..

I really look forward to seeing the youth coming in, they still have lots of time with KDS left yet they have changed and matured greatly.

HI Kate I am loving this blog as this, together with the updates - ie scoring sheet, topics and trainer feedback - lets the key workers keep on top of y/p progress and if appropriate know where to offer support. Keep up the good work Winnie
