The Recruit Finale - Stevie Style
Last night was the finale of the 2011 Recruit, throughout the programme Stevie had delivered some personal mentoring sessions and was delighted to attend last night with last year’s winner our very own Sarahjane Sarkhosh, Andrew Craig (KDS Director of Training) and Stephen McDonald (KDS work experience programme).
You may be wondering why we have chosen the picture below to complement this blog – the reason being that while everyone was enjoying a pre-ceremony drinks reception Stevie was outside working with a homeless man. John Cork (Corky) has been homeless for about a year; this was when things started to go wrong in his life. This attitude really personifies Stevie, if he knows he can help someone he can’t just walk past.
The ceremony was fantastic with Sadaf Tabassam, Euan Keltie and Dale Adam walking away with the jobs. Well done to everyone and whether you secured a job or not the experience will definitely help you with whatever you choose to do next.
Stevie spent the evening speaking about what he is most passionate about – young people and what opportunities are available for them, this is what his speech was about and he spoke at 100mph to get the message across. He works with all young people but he believes that an earlier intervention programme is required to ensure that young people who are disengaged in a classroom environment do not miss out.
He was speaking with the Head Master and Deputy Head of his own high school, Gryffe High. He spoke with passion and he agreed to go in and work with the 3rd years of the school and he laughed when the Deputy Head said “You won’t charge us for this, will you”. As demonstrated above Stevie just can’t walk away if he knows he can make a difference.

I assessed the situation as I always do when I approach people who have challenges, Corky was sleeping crouched over, always good to approach with honesty then humour, then with what do you want, lets adjust the timeline corky and install some embedded commands
that I know will make you make different choices the next day. again relationship challenges has led to this life for corky, we explored thoughts and told him he had inspired me to ensure next year I speak with third year pupils
