The importance of being spontaneous!
How would you describe your week this week? If we pressed you to narrow it down to one word what would you say? Well there was little thought required this week at SK People – SPONTANEOUS!!
Spontaneous: resulting from a natural impulse or tendency; unplanned; natural and unconstrained.
In a world where you are often judged on your social standing in life, it's frequently hard to break free of constraints and live life according to how YOU want to live it, regardless of what others may think of you and regardless of where it may place you on the popularity scales of those who may judge you for simply being yourself.
Luckily, none of this is the case for Stevie, or anyone at SK People, who are adept at taking it all in our stride! Stevie offered, through social media, to do 30mins FREE mentoring each day this week for anyone interested! The requests quickly came in and the appointments set! However, it became clear that there was an equal amount of scepticism about these offers from other business people who asked WHY and were not able to live according to their own values in life!
30 minutes, is not a lot of time in a person’s day, but , that 30 minutes can make a huge difference in the life of someone else! What if more people were willing to do this for people who required mentoring or support for their professional or personal lives? What changes would we notice in local communities and wider society? (Points we will come back to later on but wanted you to think about while reading!)
So this week (for no cost) Stevie has worked with-
Joe: who has just set up his new business (30mins)
James: a Firefighter who is also a partner in a new local fire safety business (30mins)
Colin: a Senior Manager at a hotel who has many personal issues he was keen for support to get sorted out. (30mins)
Jordan: Unemployed, on a work placement and was hugely lacking in confidence (30mins)
Scott: A school pupil who has now set down a plan for his 3 months work experience/mentoring journey (30mins)
Liz & Micheal, Karen& Martin: the families on his holistic approach to family mentoring project (1.5 hrs) And we had one person who had to reschedule for next week!
In our usual style we filmed before/after clips of all them and you can see an immediate change in their thinking, posture and communication styles. Strategies were shared and advice was given - for taking business forward, securing employment, overcoming what was holding you back in your personal life, mapping out your future, living the family life that you are dreaming of, working on relationships, confidence!(you can see all the film footage for these people on www.facebook.com/pages/Stevie-Kidd-People/144677305584790)
So Stevie took 4 hours out of his week running his business and the ripple effect on the lives, families and businesses of all of these people will carry on and on(will stop there you get the picture!) But on a serious note back to the questions we asked you to think about above What are you thinking now about these questions ? Do you really not have even 30mins a week to share your knowledge to improve lives, the local community, families, individuals, wider society?
This blog is entitled the importance of being spontaneous- but it's not just about that; it's about values, being yourself & ensuring you carry that over into working life. Remember this piece of advice: NO-ONE IS REMEMBERED FOR BEING NORMAL. Was Michael Jordan remembered as being a normal basketball player? The answer is no.
So push the limits of who you are, and never, allow yourself to settle for anything less than the extraordinary, and throughout all of this, no matter what, ALWAYS REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE!
