Surprising themselves!

Week 4 saw the young people, from the Activities Agreement Programme, who are taking part in the KDS Academy step things up a gear! Wednesday was hard hitting when we looked at Road Safety using the Brake Academy presentation. Stunned by some of the clips and information they received they all agreed that not enough was done to educate young people about the dangers on the road as they grow up and head towards getting their Driving License. Measuring out the distance that it takes cars to actually stop hammered home the message about driving safely. All the guys on the programme are now taking learning their Highway Code and hazard perception more seriously and some good ideas about how to promote the message to other young people are coming out!

Thursday saw the group spend the morning with those on the Seasonal Gardeners Academy in a session taken by Stevie Kidd. Language patterns, making the most of our time, re-enforcing positive messages, looking ahead to where we want to go, changing how we look at situations were all important themes of the morning. There were lot’s of light bulb moments after lunch when we looked further into these things – including how much our bad habits are costing us and what else we could have with the money and how what we are thinking is holding us back. Thursday also saw Nicole be recognised for her achievements within the academy with a beauty treatment provided by LK Beauty! Feeling great and having got some new career ideas Nicole is thrilled with her nails – Thanks Lesley!

Friday saw us continue looking at our wellbeing and fitness. We broke it down and identified what we were going to look at in more detail and started with a more in depth look at water – why we need it and what it does within the body. Another session at the gym with Bernie to put the group through their paces and they were impressed to discover they could push themselves even further than the last time! We ended the week taking what had been donated by academy candidates along to the CARING Project, a project which we and KDS are supporting!

All in all a busy week where the group surprised themselves by how much they had achieved when we reflected on the first four weeks of the journey!
