Stevie delivers on Adapting to Change

Today Stevie took to the stage at the Pollokshaws Burgh Hall at the Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency conference.

There were over 200 people in the audience and the mood was pretty sombre. The reason being that the agency, like many Government bodies, is going through a transitional period and staff had been asked to make a decision on whether to take voluntary redundancy or to take a chance on staying with the organisation to see what the changes bring.

It is also a poignant day for KDS because we part company with Boots. This has been a 7 year partnership and was the contract that really put Kidd’s Distribution Services on the map. The KDS drivers have been involved in a TUPE process with Boots which means that there has been no job losses as the guys simply transfer over and are now employees of Boots.

The message that Stevie gave to the audience was that we are all responsible for our own future, we create opportunity and if you sit around waiting for things to come to you it’s likely that you will be waiting for a long time. Rather than being gloomy about the fact that the contract was being lost, Stevie and his team went about creating a new direction for KDS. The second last slide of the day showed all of the projects that we are now involved with, this included:

• Youth Training Programme
• Leadership Development Programme for youth
• Contracts with biggest employability prime contractor in Europe
• Stevie Kidd People APP
• Stevie Kidd book (coming soon!)
• Motivational events
• Documentary
• KDS Care division – working with young care leavers

This really got the audience thinking and coupled with the fact that 7 years ago Stevie was unemployed, the impact was obvious!
After the presentation Stevie stayed around to talk with staff and this offer was greatly received with many of the 200 staff members taking the time to speak with him.

Stevie also made the offer that anyone who wanted to speak with him at a later date could email him at anytime.

I was lucky enough to be at this event and really enjoyed watching Stevie in full flow. On a personal note, I used to work for this company and have a lot of friends who are affected by the massive changes that are happening. I hope they took something positive from the examples they were shown and can see how they have the final say on where they go next. Immense.

Proof indeed that all to often we look on the bleak side of a situation rather than focus on the positives, a future and a way forward!! As they say failing to prepare is preparing to fail! Many people will have approached the weekend with a whole new attitude and viewpoint on the situation, which in turn will have made family life more pleasant! The ripple effect in action! Well done to Stevie and all the team who made this event happen! K
