Stevie Creates Yet Another Opportunity for Youth

Stephen McDonald’s work experience placement is well underway and on Monday it was time for Stevie and him to have a firm business conversation.

The main focus of this conversation was around professional conduct at all times and about taking ownership of tasks. Stevie then tasked Stephen with creating a PowerPoint presentation around his shadowing with Gerry Croall, Development Director for A4e. He then delivered his presentation to the 40 candidates on the Seasonal Gardeners course. This was another big achievement for Stephen because just a few short weeks ago this task would have been unimaginable to him.

The reason that Stevie pushed Stephen to this level was to ensure that he is prepared for the next opportunity! Having excelled in his visit to A4e and receiving some brilliant feedback Stevie has arranged for a further 2 Director Shadowing days to take place.

The first will be with Alison Welsh, Director of Square Circle HR Ltd. This is an opportunity for Stephen to see firsthand how a business within yet another sector operates and he will have the opportunity to determine the qualities that make Alison so successful.

The second opportunity will be with Stephen Ross, Head of Client Relations for the Royal Bank of Scotland. Stephen will be able to interview him to get a feel for the role and again to focus on the qualities that are attributed to success.

These opportunities don’t come along often for 17 year olds and they are certainly not being handed to Stephen without any effort on his part. Stevie is pushing him further and further every week and he has to show his commitment to learning and developing.

Stevie is investing his time in developing Stephen because he has a passion for seeing people grow and achieving all that they want.

I seen Stephen this morning before he left for his meeting, he was very excited about it, taking on board what he''d learned from last week and preparing himself for this next opportunity. Enjoy, Stephen!

This story just get better and better. In fact, quite a funny thought popped into my head while i was reading this post. I''ve been watching Stephens journey and like a lot of others am astounded by how much this young man has grown in a very short space of time. It''s a real privilege to be invited to observe and be involved in a pivotal moment in the making of someone as he discovers just how dynamic and inspiring he can be AND THEN GOES BEYOND IT AGAIN & AGAIN! But that''s not the funny thought I had - it was this: This story is exactly the kind of stuff that becomes a script for a movie years later. Remember folks - you saw it here first.
