Stephen Inspires Fellow Pupils

Today I arrived at KDS at 7.40am, earlier than Stevie Kidd again! My first task I had to do was sort out my folio and after that I had to go downstairs to watch the Non Sector Specific Academy. This was really good for me because when I saw them last week they all appeared to be quiet and shy but today Michelle had them working hard and from what I saw, there is a good team spirit within the group. Michelle gave everyone a break so I was talking to everyone and telling about what I've been doing and after this I was talking to Michelle and she said my confidence has grown dramatically since I started with KDS.

After this I was back upstairs and SarahJane asked me to compile a database with contact details for media companies based in Glasgow as KDS had created a short DVD to promote how they work and help with the unemployed. I found this task to be easy because I am competent with spreadsheets and after this Stevie took me into the creative room and mentored me on how to be more assertive. A key learning from this is to be more pro-active and not accept anything which is not good enough. Stevie also told me a story about a chicken and an eagle where the eagle is the Lord of the Sky and the Chicken is a chicken. They key learning from this was what do I want to be? An eagle where I grab opportunities or a chicken where I wait for opportunities. I want to be an eagle.

By the end of the session it was time for lunch so I went to McDonald's and when I return I started to write up my blog then Stevie took me into the creative room again and showed me a video which was about a Game of Inches and I learned how I've got to fight for each inch the difference between winning and losing is an inch. After this it was time to go back to school because there was a presentation for "The Recruit" - a programme based on the TV show The Apprentice and the programme that gave me this amazing opportunity to work with Stevie Kidd.I had to tell everyone about how my life had changed for the better after it and it was in front of 120 S5 and S6 students in my school. This was my biggest challenge so far as the audience was my peers and was my biggest audience yet. I told them about my experience at the recruit and how I've benefitted from it. When I told everyone about the opportunities I told everyone about my time with KDS and what I've learned and gained in such a short space of time. Once I had finished my Year Head, Dr.Phelps told me I already had it in me to do it but it was working with you who got it out of me. She said that it was fantastic and she hopes that many people will apply for it after hearing my story and at the end of the day my friend Matthew approached me to say what I did was amazing which shows that there have been positive changes in me since I started working with Stevie Kidd. What an amazing day it has been!

It''s a huge achievement to deliver to 50 Academy students, yet it also takes great courage and confidence to deliver to your peers; it sounds as though you did terrific! You should definitely be proud of this Stephen.

Another full day at KDS! Many business people struggle with presenting info to that amount of people, especially an audiance of their peers! Very well done on this big achievement! Keep up all your hard work and take on board all the feedback you are given! K
