Rocketing Into Cyber Space

Social Media, as you will know, is a huge part of what we do here at KDS. Various blogs and podcasts are created for use on the website in order to show others some of the things we do on a day to day basis. We use different sites including Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and Linked In to communicate and market different aspects of the business.

In recent years Social Media has rapidly changed the way we communicate, with the past few years seeing an increased rise in the number of online users. Facebook claims that around 50% of active users log onto the site everyday and more than 80,000 websites have introduced Facebook Connect. Linked In, a popular site with business networking, now has over 11 million users and Twitter processes around 10 billion tweets per year.

The figures speak for themselves; social media is undoubtely very popular. Love it or hate it, nobody can deny the success of social networking and marketing through social media.

However, there are of course negative aspects to this phenomenon. A lot of time and effort is required in order to maintain a constant flow of posts or tweets to keep the marketing tool effective. Maintaining control over who can view your content can be sometimes be difficult, without restricting access completely and ultimately you could reveal too much information about your business and end up giving ideas away to competitors.

It is apparent that in today’s society, social media is one of the most powerful tools that can be used in relation to marketing and networking. Used in the correct way, the benefits are endless. Facebook, Flickr, Linked In, Twitter, Bebo, Youtube and Myspace all have various uses that have transformed the way we live and communicate today.
