Rising to the challenge!

Week 3 on the Youth Academy saw the group push themselves to limits that they did not know they could, challenge themselves to activities they did not think they could do, look at how they presented themselves and communicated with others and looked at the skills they have just now!

A busy week of self-discovery that started with looking at how we communicate and how others perceive us, much of which they did not realise and a closer look at how we speak and how we act was an eye-opener to what people would see in the streets when they were out and what they would be presenting to others in the workplace! The guys looked at what skills do we have just now (we got a long list from the initial response of none!) and how we could comfortable talk to people about who we are with a first look at the Johari Window! Day two saw then team building at Auchengillan saw the group mixing with other groups and pushed them right outside their comfort zone and made them look at how they were interacting with other people – A challenge they rose to and allowed them to enjoy the day! Team building, orienteering, The cat walk, the crate climb, abseiling and some practical teambuilding activities proved to them that they could overcome their fears and do things, with encouragement from others, that at first they thought impossible! The day was a great success and a bus full of very tired, but very happy young people were still buzzing when they made it home that night and when they came in the next day!

To top of a fantastic week the guys then worked with someone else to help them identify their skills and give them advice on doing his “Who am I” and getting him to look differently at his future!  Some of the group had a first look at interview skills and some others had a look at the CSCS Health and Safety test!

Busy week for the Youth Academy who are continuing on their journey to a brilliant future!  Keep watching the website for an update on the Youth Academy and to find out more about what changes we are seeing in the team members who are continually rising to the challenge of pushing themselves, learning new things and looking at things differently!
