My Third Day at KDS as Stevie’s Executive Assistant

Today was AMAZING!! It was the Open Day for next academy supporting unemployed people back into employment within the care sector. We arrived at Reid Kerr College just after 9am (that was after me forcing Stevie out of a meeting to make sure he got there in time!) The super KDS team had set up all of the visual and IT stuff and were registering attendees as they came in. Attention to detail and always striving to be a grade above excellence is evident throughout the whole process starting at registration where attendees have their photographs taken so that the team can put a face to a name when discussing how interviews went at the end of the day.

The atmosphere in the room before the guys went through to the theatre was electric, there was no awkward silences or people just sitting around everyone was chatting and talking about what they could expect – you could feel the anticipation in the room. The general overview was that they sensed that there was something different about this compared to other courses they had been on – I just don’t think anyone could have appreciated HOW much different it would be.

Everyone started making their way through to the theatre where they were greeted with a handshake from the man himself – Stevie Kidd! I don’t think some of them knew what was happening. As Stevie began you could hear a few nervous giggles and uncertainty but he has such a down to earth attitude that puts everyone at ease and he makes it clear that although he does a whole lot of talking about his own achievements he’s not gloating he’s just proving that with the right attitude and support anyone can be a success. The highlight of the presentation for me was when at the end Stevie got everyone on their feet and started applauding – not just a few polite claps actually stand on your seat clapping as loud as you could cheering ‘Let’s do this!!!’ AWESOME!

I feel really lucky to have been invited to attend the open day and you do feel that you are witnessing something magical happening. There can be no price put on taking a person at their lowest point and giving them the tools to ‘be more than they are living’. I personally find the whole process totally inspiring and I am so glad I am going to be able to watch as the people I met today embark on their 4 week journey. Stevie asked me for some constructive feedback today and to tell him how he could have been better and I just had to say that it would be impossible for me to do that having only seen one open day – it’s too much to take in!

Apologies that this is such a long blog but it was an extra special day. Thanks also to all of the team for your well wishes and hugs today!
