My first day at the KDS Group

I kissed goodbye to my son and husband this morning thinking about the journey I was about to embark on with KDS. Feeling, nervous, anxious and excited I set off westbound across the M8 towards Paisley. On arrival with butterflies in my stomach, I was greeted with a warm smile and a handshake which put me at ease. From interview to now I have realised that part of the ethos of this company is how we meet and greet everyone. No matter who you are, you are welcomed sincerely, it’s a unique quality of KDS. In all my time in all of my previous employment, I have never been greeted or welcomed in this affectionate way – the KDS way.

KDS is more than a brand, it is a symbol of what you are going to be part of whether you are an employee, candidate or visitor. I have noticed that the group has different dynamics, yet everyone is striving towards the same goal – “to achieve the grade above excellence”. Already I am sensing the uniqueness of this company.

Through speaking to other team members I understand that I will not know everything about KDS in a day and that I have to work throughout my time here to appreciate the KDS principles, how it was born to future mapping. Even then I feel that I will have barely scratched the surface. Advice that I will act on from others is to soak up as much information as possible, communicate, reflect and observe.

I have been trying to think about the team and the only thing that I can add is although there is no ‘I’ in team, there is in this one and it stands for Inspirational!

This so far is an induction like no other I have ever been part of. Today I sat with the Director and I have never in previous employment met the Director, never mind meet with him!

Today I learned about the impact the Academies have on candidates. I learned that Training Academies help equip candidates with the right tools to succeed but the candidate has to be ready and willing to undertake this.

Reflecting on my experience today, I need to change my thought process as this is an employment experience like no other I have known. However, I look forward to the journey this new venture will take me on and I am sure there will be a few pot holes along the way to challenge me and I look forward to overcoming these.
