"Moira Stewart, Hearts & Smiles"

 "Moira Stewart, Hearts & Smiles"

How great is it to hear Moira Stewart on Radio 2 in the mornings with Chris Evans? However, yesterday morning it wasn't her diction and calm tone that got my interest, rather one item of news that struck a chord. The report detail is summarised by sciencedaily.com below.

The authors believe that the study, published in the Europe's leading cardiology journal, the European Heart Journal, is the first to show such an independent relationship between positive emotions and coronary heart disease.
Dr Karina Davidson, who led the research, said that although this was an observational study, her study did suggest that it might be possible to help prevent heart disease by enhancing people's positive emotions. However, she cautioned that it would be premature to make clinical recommendations without clinical trials to investigate the findings further." Source - www.sciencedaily.com

Not only does it seem we can have a positive effect on our own bodies and physical state through the power of smile and enthusiasm, but how about the amazing realisation that you can be INFECTIOUS! Being happy & enthusiastic can change someone else's mental and now apparently physical state, even for a short time. A genuine smile can reassure, show empathy, comfort and cheer up. Try it. Get a smile on your own face, but send it to someone else and see how it can change their state of emotion, and now as the report suggests, help improve their well being too. Choose to be happy, choose to be enthusiastic and make a difference to those round you. :)
"People who are usually happy, enthusiastic and content are less likely to develop heart disease than those who tend not to be happy, according to a major new study published February 17.
