Mentoring Across the Miles!

Stevie is in Portugal for a few days and although he’s making the most of spending some time with his family he never switches off completely and he certainly wasn’t going to let a small thing like 1300 miles get in the way of his mentoring session with Stephen McDonald!

Stephen has his college interview this week so it was more important than ever for Stevie to speak with him to ensure that he is prepared and is in the right mindset.

Stevie spoke about a number of things to get Stephen in the optimum state for his interview. He worked with him on techniques for dealing with any nervous feelings he may have, although this has been dealt with throughout Stephen’s time with KDS as many of the tasks that he has been involved with have focussed on him putting himself in unfamiliar situations and speaking with Directors of a number of organisations.

Stevie spoke about maturity and used visualisation to create a timeline for Stephen. Asking him to go back to when he was part of The Recruit programme and think about all of the activity that he has been involved in from then until now. He then took it to the next stage and asked Stephen to visualise himself at college and to think about how it would feel being a student and studying towards his dream career in accountancy.

Stevie also asked Stephen to think about self awareness and perception – what impression does he want to make on the interviewers and how is he going to stand out from the crowd and be memorable. Stephen has spent some time researching the college and the specific course he wants to study along with shadowing a professional within accountancy so he will have those experiences to talk about.

The main points that Stevie reinforced were for Stephen to be focussed on his goal at all times and to speak with passion and honesty at his interview.

We have no doubts you will be successful Stephen and we look forward to celebrating with you when your place is confirmed!
