Marks' Recipe!

The Recruit 2011 is well underway and one of the creative tasks this year was a Master Chef challenge held at Erskine Bridge Hotel. Stevie was asked to be a judge on this task, he agreed but Stevie being Stevie seen another opportunity! Knowing that Mark McKirdy has a passion for food and for cooking he suggested to the organisers that Mark also be invited to join the judging panel and so Mark was a judge!

He was in great company as the panel also included Councillor Brian Lawson, Fraser Carlin (Head of Planning, Renfrewshire Council), a St Mirren footballer and 2 senior members of the Cosmopolitan Hotel team.

Stevie met with Mark before the judging took place to mentor him on what was going to be expected, the easiest way for Stevie to get Mark to fully appreciate what was expected was to relate the task in football terms – another of Marks’ loves!

Throughout the task Mark absolutely blew the other judges away with his knowledge and passion and with his professional attitude.

Councillor Lawson delivered a speech after the task and Mark also managed to get up and say a few words – this highlighted Marks’ phenomenal KDS journey as when he stared his work experience programme with us he would never have been able to stand up in front of a group of strangers and speak.

He also sat in on a post task meeting between Stevie, Chef and HR manager for the hotel giving input and opinion.

The task was such a success that Mark has been invited back to participate in a work experience programme with the hotel! This is such an achievement for Mark as this was a goal he had set for himself.

Marks’ 14 month KDS journey has been quite something so far and keep watching as there’s more to come!

What an amazing experience and will challenge the participants to think about limitations in a different way. Wonderful!!
