Managing your money with RBS & KDS

Financial hardship is an obvious potential problem if you lose your job, so it is worth facing up to this. At the KDS 4 week employment academy we prepare individuals who have been long term unemployed get ready to face the world of work once more.

We identified early on that it was great motivating and building up individuals confidence to get them back into work, however, if the challenge that is finance, still remains without identifying it, then it doesn’t matter how motivated someone is, they will not sustain employment. We therefore established a partnership with the RBS who had a successful programme for young adults and Children on how to manage their finances, aptly named “money sense”. We worked with the RBS to look at adopting this excellent programme to those who are currently unemployed and they did. Today we carried out a pilot with RBS and the consumer financial education body to provide one to one support to those individuals currently on our academy and it went a storm.

Edwin Finlayson a ‘money guide’ expert from the CFEB came along to day and providing the one to one assessments and provided each candidate with excellent advice for them to start managing their finances and prepare themselves for the challenges ahead when their benefits stop and they have to wait for a their first wage.

This is the start of a very fruitful partnership and will provide so many individuals with the much need advice and help to start to overcome this barrier...
