Making a choice!
A very important message which Stevie Kidd delivered with passion to the 9 candidates on the youth academy on their very first day! 9 young people aged 16-18 from Renfrewshire Council's Activities Agreement programme, started on their own 4 month journey with the end goal of getting them into employment! Early start, excitement, anticipation, honesty, stepping out of the comfort zone, admitting to the choices we had made (both right and wrong) and telling EVERYONE “who am I” was just a snapshot of what we achieved during the day! “It was good to be treated like adults” and “I didn’t feel any pressure when we were doing things which made it less hard” were just some of the feedback we received about Stevie’s input and the training!
With the CHOICE made to return on day two we witnessed some big changes – the least confident members of the team talking to full academies, we worked as a team, we understood more about each other and what the past had been like for us, we ate more healthily, we set goals for the future and have started to look at how we will achieve these, we looked at attitudes and assumptions, we sat up straighter, we made initial plans for helping and supporting another group and discussed the benefits this would bring!!
CHOICE! Making the choice for a better future for ourselves and for others has been agreed as the way forward for this group!!

Got a great quote relating to choices: “If you were given only one choice: To choose or not to choose, which would you choose?”. One for discussion, no? Sounds like some exceptionally positive experiences for this academy - brilliant stuff. Enjoy the next part
of the journey.
