Lightbulb moments!
It has been an eventful week with the Youth Programme this week and all the candidates have much to be proud of! The young people from the Activities Agreement programme have stepped it up to a new level this week and impressed everyone in the building as they have done so!
We have had input from Tommy, one of the drivers, who went into great detail about his Academy journey, Tommy was on Academy one and was very honest about his past, present and future! Tommy also took time out of his day to discuss the impact he makes driving a road safety van for KDS and the feedback that he gets from the public. He told us about his job role and 4 of the candidates immediately asked if they would be able to go out and experience a day in the life of a KDS Driver! We are in the process of making this happen!!
2 of the candidates gave us a very honest, and emotional, account of their lives and made the rest of the group see them in a whole different light! We discussed feelings around this, ways to deal with them and how we are going to implement these in our lives to keep going forward! One of these young people said of being on the course “this is the first time I don’t just see darkness in everything I do and in my future” A massive step forward for him and this was immediately recognised by the group! We discussed anger from previous events in our lives and one candidate gave a very honest account of an attack that caused him to hit the self destruct button – we have now put the strategy in place to tackle these feelings and channel his energy and to keep him busy at times when he is not on the programme!
Everybody on the programme this week had their own, what we like to call, lightbulb moment – realisations have been made, acknowledged and action-ed! One visitor to the centre said “ they are a very different group to the one I first saw five weeks ago”
Today the group recognised the changes they had made over the 5 weeks that they had been here and left feeling proud of what they have achieved so far, but looking forward to what they were going to achieve next!

Well done to the group!!!!! We all need light bulb moments to move on in life. You are all becoming confident individuals, which will lead to active citizenship through employment and exploring new areas of life you may never have thought of exploring. once
again Well Done!!!
