Learning From The Best

Yesterday I travelled to Kilmarnock to meet Iain Sim, Stevie Kidd’s accountant. With my goal being to become a successful accountant in the future, I wanted to gain a more of an insight as to what this might be like.

The morning was based around me asking Iain questions all about his career – this was great as I had plenty of them! I wanted to find out what made him want to become an accountant, what motivates him to succeed in his role today and what is he striving to achieve in the future.

Iain felt he was able to provide a service nobody can provide and he started up his firm using his experience in the accountancy industry. When I asked Iain about providing good customer service he told me the best customer service you can give is providing pro-active support to anticipate the needs of the customer but the main aim of good customer service is to exceed expectations.

Similar to Stevie’s motto of “always achieving the grade higher than excellence”.

Iain then told me a bit more about where he would like his firm to be in the future and about the targets he is setting for this year. This included growing the clients base and giving his staff a chance to develop their skills.

I really enjoyed today because I learned a lot from it and I also got an idea of the journey I will be taking to achieve my goal of becoming an accountant. I am incredibly grateful to Iain for his time today and Stevie for making this happen. Today was such a valuable opportunity and truly unique learning experience which I will not forget.

what he takes from today is entirely up to this young man as he continues to look forward to be a success in accountancy the day will arrive where he will glance over his shoulder and see this picture somewhere in his past, then come back to me as we will then discuss "TIME"
