Joined-Up Thinking
Joining the dots. Dot to Dot books. Remember playing that as a kid? Remember not being able to see the whole picture at the start then gradually making out the outline and seeing what the end result would be...... and then remember finishing, each dot joined. Complete. Clear. Turning something that was previously abstract, into a stronger visual image that could be seen and understood?
Here's a phrase that's used in business that perhaps we need to re-learn what it really means, what it looks like and sounds like: - "joined up thinking".
I have been working closely with Stevie Kidd recently in developing bigger business opportunities with his businesses' and yesterday I think I really understood for the first time the amazing difference that joined up thinking can achieve in business. I've seen first hand how networking and business relationships, new ideas and delivering results faster and with the best strategy......is just like joining the dots. It takes vision to see the end result with only a few dots linked, but Stevie Kidd is a master at it. Not only can he visualise opportunities, he can link the dots, match up the people and relationships that will make it happen and impliment the best strategy to get to the outcome directly.
It could be as simple as making a direct phone call to a stakeholder, rather than writing an e mail or planning a presentation. It could be about following through where others would be hesitant. It could be as simple as asking someone for their business, rather than hinting that you want to work together. Joining the dots is harder than it first seems, but visualising your goal or dream, linking in with the right people, and connecting with the right strategy will turn dream into reality, abstract into physical.
On you go, join the dots and make it happen.
