Induction Day Three – “The First Day of the Rest of My Life”
Induction Day Three – “The First Day of the Rest of My Life”
Everyone has their own story. Everyone you interact with meets you at a unique point in their life, and you meet them at your own unique point. Today my induction continued as part of the KDS Group with encouragement from my line manager Stevie Hunter and Managing Director Stevie Kidd to continue meeting and getting to know each individual member of the team that comes into the office. I’m getting my head round this company, its culture and operation is unique from any I’ve previously been in and the people I’ve met with underline how anchored the business is based upon its people.
I met Kevin this morning, grabbed a coffee with him in the kitchen. He’s a driver for KDS Distribution and looks after a delivery route that involves delivering to the Care Home sector. A really genuine guy in his early 20’s, he came through one of the Training Academies. He told me about the change he saw in himself having been a quiet and reserved person he felt transformed into a much more confident young man. Sitting there with a coffee, telling me about his newborn daughter Lily he glowed with a father’s pride, but also with self assurance. He completed the four week Academy only last October and was offered a position within KDS Distribution. Not only has the Academy resulted in him being in employment in time for the arrival of his second child, but also in him growing as a person.
Kathryn is a candidate at the start of her journey through the next Academy starting next week. She popped into the office with some paperwork and she told us that she had felt a bit low due to ongoing difficulty finding employment, having additionally been out off the workplace with medical challenges. That was until she attended the Academy open day yesterday where Stevie Kidd’s unique presentation opened her eyes to the possibilities of her future. She said that she was already feeling more positive about this year, looked forward to the course and that today, “is the first day of the rest of my life”.
Everyone has their own story. The outcome of the Training Academies is measured upon seeing people fully prepared for a return to the workplace and off of welfare, but for Stevie Kidd and the Training Team, it is also about opening their minds to believe in their future. What’s your story? What's mine?

The change in Kevin is amazing to see, it just goes to show the impressive changes that are brought about through the Academies. Amanda, the trainer on that Academy, did a great job with all the guys and provided them with lots of support. It will be exciting
to see the changes in those who are on the next academy and to watch their journey recorded in pictures on Flickr! K
