Gliding into employability!

Week 7 on the Youth Academy saw the young people from the Activities Agreement gliding their way into the next stage of their course where they become more focused on their future careers! We started the week with 1:1 mentoring sessions with Stevie Kidd after which each of the candidates were left with lots to think about and lots of points to action! We saw evidence of these being actioned as the week went on! Wednesday was a full day as we also tackled the basics of application forms and gained an understanding of how to stand out from the crowd when we submit these! (and yes that does involve filling in all the boxes that require information!)

Thursday saw us have the focused employability interviews with Andrew Craig, Head of Training at KDS and Suzy Alexander of E3 Partnership! A daunting experience by anyone's standards at which they all gave good input and solidified the next steps of their journey! To keep up the theme of moving forward each candidate met with the trainer to set individual goals to make these placements happen and started work on their sector specific tasks! Some Pro-active behaviour see's a local employer coming into give one to one support to a candidate keen to work in the beauty industry! (more of this next week)

Friday saw the group take to the slopes at Bellahouston as a reward for what they had a achieved and a launch pad for what they are about to achieve next! Proving to themselves that even when they find something difficult with perseverence, the right attitude and lots of Smiles they can MAKE IT HAPPEN!!  Stopping off for some lunch on the way back we impressed some local business men with our ability to communicate, work together and proved them wrong on their initial impressions of young people today! To quote Stevie Kidd "THAT'S WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!"

The journey continues......

Sounds like the youth academy had a busy week! I am amazed at how far each individual has come over the past few weeks. Looking forward to seeing your progress by the end of the course!

Evidently, there has been lots of learning taking place in the Youth Academy this week! The young people involved have definitely grown in confidence; when they enter the KDS offices they are very professional when they greet us and are visibly enthusiastic about the upcoming day.
