Getting to know yourself: An amazing discovery!
How well do you know yourself? Ask yourself this question honestly. Not entirely sure of your answer – don’t panic, few people are! Having an understanding that you are AWESOME in this world because of your differences to others not despite them is one of the most valuable lessons that we can learn! One of the best moments people have in life is when they start to understand and live as the person they were meant to be – no longer answering “YES” to the question Are you more than you are currently living?
Getting to know you involves knowing your values and beliefs, your personality (and accepting all your quirks!) and your priorities in life. You need to know and accept your likes and dislikes, understand your moods, habits that you have (that often you need to break!) and your body – how it works and what you may be damaging by various aspects of your lifestyle! An honest appraisal of your relationship and deciding which are healthy and which are holding you back can be difficult but is necessary if you are to truly know who you are and get what you want from life! You need to acknowledge your passions and your fears – continuing to fuel the flames of your passions and to take the steps to overcome your fears!
The better you know yourself the better you will be able to choose your actions and not spend all of your time reacting to things which are happening to you, which you feel are out with your control.
Knowing yourself well means:
1. You will be better able to interact with other people: –
• Because you know your own strengths and weaknesses.
• Because as you learn about yourself you learn about other people, human nature and other people’s emotional cues and body language.
2. You will feel more secure in yourself and your ability to make your own decisions, take chances and experience new things.
3. You will be less likely to hit the “self-destruct button” and sabotage yourself and opportunities that come your way.
4. You will be happier.
5. You will be able to think more clearly, creatively and push past your limits of what you thought you could achieve.
6. You will achieve more success in life as you know how to use your skills, talents and passions more effectively.
We are not born knowing ourselves and, unfortunately, simply growing up doesn’t give us an accurate insight and knowledge of who we are. Knowing who we are involves effort, purpose and commitment to lifelong learning! Knowing yourself very well is like a journey on a long and winding road – always showing you something new and offering a worthwhile ending.

Brilliant post. I''''ve just started on this journey and I can already tell that it is going to be a fruitful one. Only time will tell.

Great blog! I was always struck by how comfortable all the KDS team are in their own skins. This has been a catalyst for massive change in my own life and how I look at things now. Still a long way to go - but getting closer to who and where I want to be. Lots
of things in this blog that I totally relate to - thanks for that.
