FUTURE FOCUS IN AN INSTANT!!

What a day it was today on day two of the Future Focus Youth Academy! The six young people, who are part of the Activities Agreement programme, undertook another session with Stevie! Carrying on from yesterday’s session Stevie worked with them on establishing a focus for their future! Six young people who had very little idea of what they wanted to do with their life worked with Stevie to uncover what careers they would like to have in the future if they could have any jobs! Stevie interacted with the young people asking questions like “What do you like to do?” and “what would you enjoy doing everyday?” quickly he had them identifying what it was they would REALLY like to do in a job and had them understanding that negative self-talk was a big part of what is holding them back!

Using the join the dot analogy (insights page) and the importance of relationships in life Stevie quickly had them focusing on those people around them who had contacts who could support them to achieve their ultimate goal of careers in these areas and agencies which KDS and Stevie work with which could also be of use to them. Construction, beautician, sound technician and nursery nurse were some of the areas in which the candidates created their own mind map of who and where they could use for support and introductions to make this happen!

INSTANT is a watchword which Stevie works to and INSTANT was how quickly the strategies were put in place to start the process and meet the right people! As the group left today phone calls had already been made, letters were in the planning stages and arrangements were being made for introductions!

Incredible stuff. How different were the people who left at the end of the day from the people who arrived that morning? Can''t wait to see what''s next.
