Road Safety Awareness story

Driver: STEPHEN DUNBAR
Route: MILNGAVIE/KIRKINTILOCH Story: REBEKKA HUDD

Has there been any reaction regarding the van from anyone either;

AS NORMAL YOU ALWAYS GET A REACTION ON THE ROADS AND CAREHOMES PEOPLE SEEM TO GIVE YOU MORE SPACE AND TIME.

I have just moved home in the last 5 months and every Sunday there is a small lad comes round to help me wash my van, his name is John Kane.

One Sunday my next door neighbour came out and said to me “I see you have a little helper”
She then said to John “I hope you are getting paid for your work” the reply from John just blew me away.

He turned to the woman and said “me and Stevie have got to keep the van very clean so as everyone can see what it says and stop people on their phones in the cars killing babies”, MY eyes just filled up with emotion because to let you understand John is 7 years old, the road safety van is having an impact on all generations so spreading the message has no limits

Road Safety Awareness in Capital City

Driver: Jason Sutherland
VAN: SG08XTC – BLOODY IDIOT / Ben & Arron
Route: Boots Edinburgh

Has there been any particular reaction that you remember, if so could you describe it.

As I was taking photos of the van outside the Parliament buildings at Holyrood, a couple of Chinese tourists decided to capture the image with their cameras too. I notice a slight difference in the reaction between tourists and local public, the tourists are there to see things they don’t see at home and when something as unique as a road safety van comes in front of them, it guarantees a reaction.

There was also an old man outside a nursing home having a cigarette who asked -
“Does the Government pay you to drive this vehicle around?”

And an old lady who said – “Don’t be a bloody idiot… quite right. I bet you get some stick for driving that around”

The message on all the road safety vehicles is very important, but the message of Ben &Arron in Edinburgh this month with the festival events in full swing and the streets full of cars throughout the evening, there are some people having a few drinks and taking friends home after. It means a great deal to me if they have saw the road safety vehicle during the day, they may think twice.................

Think - What If?

Take time to read this and let me know what you think of it.

 A:
 What if no-one cared?
 What if no-one helped?
 What if no-one had time?
What if no-one gave a damn?

B:
 What if we all cared?
 What if everyone helped?
 What if everyone made time?
What if everyone gave a damn?

Which if these would lead you to a better place in life? I for one would go for B..

ROAD SAFETY JOURNEYS/STORIES

This week we focus on Road Safety Vehicle Aaron Turner with Tommy Tallach being the driver of this vehicle, Tommy on his day to day role covers areas such as Milngavie, Kirkintilloch, Cumbernauld and surrounding areas.

Tommy is fully committed in his role of Road Safety Driver for KDS and raises awareness for Road Safety each day and reports back all feedback from his week through meetings and photographs of his journeys. read below 1 of Tommys reports.

REACTIONS TO VEHICLE:

I went along to the shop at my house and asked the man behind the counter if i could talk to him about something that may or may not raise unpleasant memories for him. I made him aware of tthe fact that i drove a road safety vehicle and told him about the message my vehicle carried, i asked him what he thought about it and if there had been such things on tthe road before what had happened to him, did he think it would have made a difference...

He replied if someone had given him talks about this or these vehicles had been around his actions may never have happened.

Finally to let you know who this man is, a few years ago he was speeding on Renfrew Road where he knocked down a mother who was crossing the road with her child in a pram, the result being the death of a child.
