Aberdeen:Compliments and camaraderie
It has been a busy first week for the second Positive Transitions Academy in Aberdeen! A week in which we have seen tears turn to laughter, individuals turn to a team and fears for the future turn to focus for the future!
Working through attitudes, communication, skills and CV building AND a visit from Stevie Kidd all the candidates have had at least one light bulb moment which has turned the darkness into sunshine! (not just the weather but also in their visions for the future!) We have mapped out paths for the future and looked at the relationships we need to make these happen, and were surprised to find that we had most of these already! We have supported others when they have had a wobble and we have encouraged each other when times have been tough! More importantly we have recognised that we do have lots to offer employers and voluntary organisations and as a result have seen wider smiles, straighter backs and big difference in how we put ourselves across to others!
We had three major light bulb moments this week, or perhaps lightning bolts maybe a better description, as we developed an understanding that:
• Everyone has a past, has dealt with some very difficult things and now wants to move forward.
• Not everyone recognises how much they do and how strong they are without someone to show them.
• Giving and receiving compliments is something we should all learn to do better and never take for granted that someone knows how great they are in your eye’s!
What changes will week two bring?
